The National Film Registry is a program established by the United States Congress in 1988 to preserve and protect films that are deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." Each year, typically in December, the National Film Registry selects 25 films for inclusion. To be eligible for the registry, a film must be at least 10 years old.
