Gallup polls show that 23% of Republicans supported abolishing the Electoral College as of 2020:

Thinking for a moment about the way in which the president is elected in this country, which would you prefer -- to amend the Constitution so the candidate who receives the most total votes nationwide wins the election, or to keep the current system, in which the candidate who wins the most votes in the Electoral College wins the election?

This poll will resolve after:

  • A Democratic Party candidate wins the presidency while losing the popular vote and

  • It is no more than 8 years after said election and

  • Gallup releases a poll on this question and

  • The percentage of Republicans who support abolishing the Electoral College rises above 50%.

Either question wording will be allowed ("change" or "amend"), as Pew's research question made little difference. Any number above 50% in favor will resolve as YES.

If the shift in Republican opinion happens first, this will resolve N/A.

Seems this market should stay open until such a time as a Democrat wins the Electoral College but not the popular vote.

bought Ṁ10 YES

Donald Trump has stated publicly, multiple times, that he would prefer a popular vote system

@thepurplebull But then changed his mind when EC helped him win

@Snarflak He did not.

Well, I mean, I’m not going to change my mind just because I won.  But I would rather see it, where you went with simple votes. You know, you get 100 million votes, and somebody else gets 90 million votes, and you win.  There’s a reason for doing this.  Because it brings all the states into play.

@thepurplebull Well yes, obviously we should go with NPV because EC is undemocratic, but he did literally change his mind because it helped him.
