NO

ftc is considering banning hidden & falsely advertised fees. from their website, which is surprisingly beautiful for a government website:

The Federal Trade Commission today announced a new proposed rule to prohibit junk fees, which are hidden and bogus fees that can harm consumers and undercut honest businesses. The FTC has estimated that these fees can cost consumers tens of billions of dollars per year in unexpected costs.

resolves YES if the FTC bans junk fees before jan 1 2025.

Why did this resolve NO? The FTC banned voted to ban junk fees on Dec. 17, 2024.

@MaxSarinsky hmm my understanding was that it hasn’t gone into effect yet. i’ll take a look

@saulmunn The rule takes legal effect in 120 days. But the FTC issued a rule banning hidden fees in 2024.

Betting no on the general principle of "things take a long time to happen", but I think this is likely to eventually happen.

ooh would this ban like ticket service fees!

@Conflux yep :D
