After a year on the diagnosis waiting list, and almost a second year on the titration waiting list, I am finally about to receive meds for my severe life-ruining ADHD. UK healthcare is greeeeeeeeeeeeeeat. Will the meds work or will I mcfucking grill myself?

To resolve YES, the first medication I have been prescribed (methylphenidate hydrochloride) must eventually reduce the ADHD symptoms sufficiently that I subjectively estimate that I am losing at least 50% less time to drift and distraction relative to before. I'm in a titration process where they will be gradually increasing the dosage over 12 weeks to tell which level works best. Resolves NO if it doesn't have the needed effect at any point in this titration process.

  • Update 2025-06-22 (PST) (AI summary of creator comment): The creator has announced that the first medication, methylphenidate, was not effective and has been discontinued due to severe side effects. Based on the market's original criteria, the creator intends to resolve the market to NO.

There was a bunch of fucking around because the delivery service kept failing to find our home and falsely claiming we didn't know the confirmation code, but we finally managed to get the meds the other day. As you can probably tell by the fact it took multiple days to get around to posting this update, they have not yet cured me. However, they are slow release meds and this is the lowest dose, so hope is not lost yet ๐Ÿ™

@TheAllMemeingEye how's it going?

if the slow-release methyphenidate isn't doing it for you, then have you considered trying lisdexamfetamine?

@snazzlePop Hi, thanks for checking in :) My apologies for taking several weeks to get around to updating, largely due to the symptoms.

It turns out that for me using the first ADHD med (methylphenidate) in isolation at higher doses caused some severely negative, even potentially dangerous, side effects, while somehow actually worsening some aspects of the inattentive focus problems. On the advice of my family and my doctor, we're now trying a second med (lizdexamphetamine), which it seems you have correctly anticipated XD. If this one doesn't work, we may have to try non stimulants like atomoxetine or guanfacine. It's possible that the inattentive focus problems exacerbated were ones connected to my OCD rather than my ADHD, so I am experimenting (also with endorsement from family and doctor) with simultaneously resuming low dose of the SSRI sertraline, which I had been prescribed in the past, in tandem with the ADHD meds to see if together all the symptoms disappear.

I recall from the Columbus market ( /Hash/christopher-columbus-discovers-amer ) that, in the official mod guidelines, the resolution criteria section of the description take priority over the title and inference from other parts of the description. Since, looking back at the description, it explicitly mentions that it needs to be the methylphenidate that works, I've edited the title to more accurately match, and intend to resolve to NO unless there are objections.

@TheAllMemeingEye I hope you're able to find a medication regimen that relieves your symptoms without so many negative side-effects. ๐Ÿ™‚

Prescription has been written and sent to pharmacy, pharmacy have dispensed and posted medication, should be delivered in 1-2d ๐Ÿคž

@4fa haha with me it skips the do everything at once part and goes straight to unproductivity

@TheAllMemeingEye Oh, fair enough, I don't get "do everything" very often, either. ๐Ÿ˜…

bought แน€10 YES

NO is free mana, if your ADHD becomes manageable you'll never log on here again to resolve :^)

(Good luck!!)

@MingCat haha I suppose that if I was totally in control I would probably not be spending more than an hour on Manifold per day, ideally closer to 30 mins. Maybe someone can confirm via the API, but I suspect it might be more like 3-6 hours daily right now.

@MingCat I'm considering making a bounty where I have to pay people 1000 mana if they catch me spending too long on the site lol

Please please please ๐Ÿ™
