@marvingardens hahaha yeah. I think it also misses the very clear intentionality of that choice, both as a literary device and in-universe as a character's personal strategy

@Stralor i stay far away from audience response to star trek. for example it seems like the critics and forum people generally agree that Discovery started bad and then got good when they went to the far future. I couldn't possibly disagree more

@marvingardens same. discovery threw itself in the trash by the end. it had some cool ideas but was just too arrogant and poorly executed. easily my least favorite trek and I've watched everything, including the original animated series.

the first episode of academy actually had me worried it would be another discovery. still time to tell but this 3rd episode felt like it was doing what it's trying to do: be an accessible teen drama AND a real star trek
