Pope Francis Allows Priests to Bless Same-Sex Couples -- on 12/18/2023
While the NYT States " the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, which has a large conservative contingent, accepted the new rule, noting that it marked a distinction between sacramental blessings like marriage and a pastoral blessing for people seeing “God’s loving grace in their lives.” -- I am not entirely sure this true.
Will there be split in the Catholic Church in the US?-- I will look only to see if a sizeable portion of the Catholic Church splits off (not rest of the world). Will use reputable sources of news to confirm if this is the case.

To think of a reference class for "sizeable", we can look at another religious quarrel: while not a schism, the AFL rose to compete with the NFL in the 1960s. Instead of folding like the earlier AAFC, the AFL got the NFL to agree to a merger. It had significantly fewer teams - 10 to the older league's 16 - but it won Super Bowl III and IV. (The Jets' victory in SB III shows we're outside of the realm of the plausible and into miracle territory.)
I don't think there's anything remotely comparable in American Catholicism.
@JussiVilleHeiskanen Who is that? Did he? And did a sizeable portion of US Catholics split off? If so it's odd that I didn't hear about it.
@TiredCliche there was a blog post by someone who was not much holding back his glee/mirth. Seems this Bugnolo is a clown
@JussiVilleHeiskanen When your fellow people who think there have been no legitimate popes in 50 years think you're insane, well...
O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of Hell, especially those most in need of Thy mercy.
For my part I think the obsession with the Pope is against tradition. A thousand of my ancestors lived and died as orthodox Catholics and only knew the name of their current Pope, if they even knew that.
I am mildly interested but not particularly concerned with the media reports on the Pope. I am grateful that I have such access, but my job isn't to scrutinize his every doing. My job is to live a devout life, avoid sin, do justly, love mercy, and to walk humbly with God.
