This market will resolve to Yes if, by 11:59 PM ET on December 31, 2035, a self-driving ride-hailing service is commercially available to the general public in a service area covering at least 2,137 square kilometers (30% of the GTA's total land area).

To meet the criteria, the service must:

  1. Be autonomous: Vehicles must operate without a human safety driver present in the vehicle.

  2. Be a ride-hailing service: Any member of the general public must be able to request a ride on-demand through a publicly available application.

  3. Cover the required area: The service's operational zone, as defined by the service provider, must meet the specified land area requirement. The zone does not need to be a single contiguous area.

Clarifications

  • The Greater Toronto Area (GTA) is defined as the City of Toronto and the regional municipalities of Durham, Halton, Peel, and York, totaling 7,124 sq km.

  • "General public" means the service cannot be an invite-only beta, a pilot program restricted to a select group, or an employee-only service. It must be open for any adult to sign up and use.

  • If there is a waitlist, there needs to be evidence people are being admitted with less than a month's wait.

  • Resolution will be based on publicly available information from the service provider(s), such as official service maps, press releases, or terms of service.
